Students (Electives ): |
Non-members
of the University who wish to carry out elective period
attachments at HKMU may be admitted to part of the
course for up to one course sub-unit, subject to approval
of the Dean of Faculty and Chairperson of the department
concerned and upon payment of a fee. Such persons
are not eligible to take University examination. |
Application procedures for Elective period should be
as follows: |

Interested
applicants should send a letter of intent to
do elective at HKMU with the following attachment,
a letter of introduction from the current university
or college, Curriculum Vitae, Photographs (2
passport size) and a summary of the objectives
of their elective. |
| |
|
Once applications
are accepted, students should process visa from
their own country and arrange for a medical
insurance cover. On arrival, they will be required
to pay elective fee is US$ 150 to cover identity
cards and other costs The university will help
students acquire residence permits (this could
be done well in advance or on their arrival.)
Documents required for permits are photocopy
of their passport, CV, letter of introduction
from their respective universities, duly filled
immigration forms, five passport size photographs,
residence permit fees US$120. |

Concerning
accommodation, students may opt to use our self-catering
accommodation or otherwise. If they opt for
the university hostel they should bring their
own bed-sheets. Charges for hostel will be US$
5 per night. |

On arrival,
the student is required to foot transport costs
from his/her point of entry, being airport or
up-country bus stand. |

| The
Semester System: |
| |
Academic Sessions
|
| |
The academic session
shall comprise of two semesters in an academic
year as put here under. |
| |
|
First
semester: September/October - February/March
|
Second semester:
March/April - August/September. |
Each semester
consists of a total of 24 weeks (21 weeks of
teaching, 1 week of revision and 2 week of Examination)
|

Under the
semester system, students are
examined at the end of each semester basing
on the material covered during that particular
semester rather than the traditional system
of annual comprehensive examination. |
| |
The competence-based
semester system puts emphasis on the day-to-day
follow-up, grading and evaluation of the student's
performance, reasoning and competencies. |
|

| Conduction
of examination |
| Final university
examination is conducted by board of examiners consisting

Registration for Examination
|
| |
At
the end of each semester, there will be End
of Semester Examinations (ESE). This is apart
from the continuous assessment tests , which
will be intra-semester. Bonafide students shall
be entitled to sit for these examinations unless
advised otherwise by the relevant University
authority . |

|
Eligibility for Examination |
| |
|
No candidate
shall be allowed to sit for examination in any
subject if he/she has not attended at least
90% of the scheduled sessions in a semester
or rotation. In any case, a student who absents
himself for a cumulative period of 21 days from
lectures, tutorials, practical and other activities
prescribed for any course in any semester shall
be deemed to have withdrawn from that course.

Candidates
with unsatisfactory continuous assessment (i.e.
less than 50% aggregate) shall not be allowed
to attempt end of semester / end of rotation
or final examinations. |
| |
|
A candidate
who sits for the examination without fulfilling
the above criteria his / her results shall be
nullified. |
| |
|
Failure in Examinations
|
| |
|
Failing
students will have an option either to sit for
supplementary examinations during the long vacation
or to re-register for the failed courses in
the subsequent relevant semesters. |
| |
|
Deferment of Examination
|
| |
|
Examinations
may be deferred on ground of illness or grounds
other than ill health provided a written permission
is obtained from relevant authorities before
deferment. |
| |
Examination Irregularities
|
Senate
shall discontinue candidates who cheat or are
found with unauthorized materials during the
examination process from studies after approval.
|
|
Declaration
of Results |
Results
on a slip indicating the student's performance
in the examination shall be made available to
the student after Senate has approved the results.
|
Appeal
|
Appeals
against examination results shall be lodged
to the relevant faculty boards within 7 days
after the declaration of results. Faculty Boards
will forward the appeals with observations and
recommendations to Senate for final decision.

Requirements for Graduation, Confirmation of
Award of Degree and Transcript of Academic Record
|
A
list of students who have satisfied all University
and Faculty requirements shall be approved by
Senate at its first meeting in the following
academic year for the award of the appropriate
diploma / degree under the seal of the university
at a congregation of the university assembled
for that purpose. After the student fulfilling
all requirements, the University shall, on the
payment of an appropriate fee, issue to the
particular student a complete transcript of
his / her academic record . This transcript
shall be marked STUDENT COPY and shall record
all courses attempted and all results obtained.
