Finally, Hubert Kairuki Memorial University Charter of Incorporation has been signed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency, Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on March 24th 2010. News of the signing of the HKMU Charter was released at the meeting of Vice Chancellors and Principals of higher learning institutions, held at the University of Dar es Salaam, on March 30th, 2010, followed by a letter of confirmation from the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
The Universities Act of 2005 requires all established Universities to have their Charters signed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, after having met all required criteria set by the Tanzania Commission for Universities.
Previously HKMU was incorporated in Tanzania under the Trustees Incorporation Ordinance (CAP 375), and was the first private University in Tanzania to attain full Accreditation from the then Higher Education Accreditation Council, which is now the Tanzania Commission for Universities.
