  H.E. President Dr. Amani Abeid Karume conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree by HKMU
The Chancellor of HKMU Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim conferred upon H.E. Dr. Amani Abeid Karume, President of Zanzibar, an Honorary Doctorate Degree, Doctor of Science (honoris causa) during the 7th graduation ceremony, held on 14th November 2009 at the Karimjee Grounds, in recognition of his significant contribution towards the eradication of malaria in Zanzibar: an innovation that has uplifted the health status of the people of Zanzibar. HKMU marked its 7th Graduation Ceremony where a total of 121 graduands were conferred degrees or awarded diplomas and certificates, as follows: Certificate in Wholistic Therapeutic Counseling 25, Diploma in Nursing 27, Degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing 14, Degree of Doctor of Medicine 50, Degree of Master of Medicine 4 and Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa)1. Female students were 86, constituting 72% of all graduands. Male graduands were 35, constituting 28% of all graduands. There was an increase of 13% compared to the year 2008 when we had a total of 107 graduates.
  HKMU and the California State University Dominguez Hills sign MoU
Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU), and the California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) have agreed to cooperate and collaborate in the areas of research, teaching, and other relevant educational development activities, especially those pertaining to human health delivery services and opportunities. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) was held at the CSUDH in USA. HKMU was represented by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Keto Mshigeni and Mr. Mbelwa Kairuki, member of the HKMU Board of Trustees.
  Visit by the University Chancellor Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim to HKMU
The University Chancellor Hon. Ambassador Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, visited HKMU on 8th December 2009 where among other things, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Keto Mshigeni briefed him on the progress the University has attained, challenges that the University is facing, and future plans of the University. MMHEN Chairperson Mrs. Kokushubila Kairuki also attended the briefing session.The Chancellor was very much impressed by the progress of the University.
  Visit by the Indian Delegation to HKMU on 8 April 2010
On April 8, 2010 HKMU was visited by a delegation from India (MS/ED-CIL (India) LTD, with a view to exploring areas of human resources needs and possible areas of co-operation.
